CES commissioned the study from consultants De Walque & Associates, in view of the firm's experience in identifying, compiling and analysing complex data. The work, undertaken over six months, is an objective, external view of the sector. It complies with all EU legislation on competition.

Scope
This study is based on input from all CES members and is the authoritative work of reference on silicones in
the European economy and covered the EU-25 plus Norway and Switzerland.
Data Collection
Data were collected from specially developed questionnaires and personal interviews. Where information was not
available, interpretative techniques were used to generate further data. Inconsistencies and/or anomalies were verified or resolved to ensure high quality final output. Any minor numerical discrepancies in the charts or tables are due to rounding.
The data refer to 2006 with collection and interpretation in 2007.
User Sectors
The research defined six user sectors. Each was subdivided with one sub-sector for diverse 'other' applications.
