About the Study

CES commissioned the study from consultants De Walque & Associates, in view of the firm's experience in identifying, compiling and analysing complex data. The work, undertaken over six months, is an objective, external view of the sector. It complies with all EU legislation on competition.

Information on De Walque & Associates is available at www.etienne-de-walque.com.

Scope

This study is based on input from all CES members and is the authoritative work of reference on silicones in
the European economy and covered the EU-25 plus Norway and Switzerland.

Data Collection

Data were collected from specially developed questionnaires and personal interviews. Where information was not
available, interpretative techniques were used to generate further data. Inconsistencies and/or anomalies were verified or resolved to ensure high quality final output. Any minor numerical discrepancies in the charts or tables are due to rounding.

The data refer to 2006 with collection and interpretation in 2007.

User Sectors

The research defined six user sectors. Each was subdivided with one sub-sector for diverse 'other' applications.
